Dr. Jeff Basara
Director of Research
Oklahoma Climatological Survey

Dr. Jeff Basara graduated from Purdue University in 1994 with his Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Atmospheric Science.  He obtained his Masters of Science (M.S.) in Meteorology in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Meteorology in 2001 both from the University of Oklahoma.  His meteorological interests include land-atmosphere interactions, synoptic meteorology, mesoscale meteorology, urban meteorology, and severe weather.  From his earliest recollections, the atmosphere has always fascinated Dr. Basara.  This basic curiosity was enough to draw him to study atmospheric processes.

Dr. Basara works for the Oklahoma Climatological Survey as the Director of Research.  A day at work is never the same.  Some days are spent out in the field installing or maintaining instruments used to collect special datasets.  Others are spent in the office analyzing data, meeting with scientists and students, teaching undergraduate courses, and developing new research projects.

Dr. Basara’s hobbies and interests include spending time with his children and family, golf, basketball, hockey, hunting, fishing, and home improvement projects.
